TASK 2 (D1)
A Potential technology development that will impact; Society, Culture and the Economy.
HCI will continue to impact all around the world constantlyinto the future. With the world changing and people wanting to make their lives easier. The latest develpment is using brain waves to create an effect, and Neurowear, they have created a headset with cat ears that detect brainwaves move the ears depending on your mood. This technolgy has alot of potential to be developed to use neurological energy, to say turn your washing machine on, or write a text.
Their are many technological advances that can come into being thanks to the tchnology of the Neuroware Neko Ears. Imagine we are all driving our cars and a child runs out into the road, infront of you. It then will take say 2 or 3 seconds for your eyes to tell you theirs a child in front of you, then another, say, 2 seconds for your brain to tell your foot to press jam on your brakes (overall about 7 seconds to stop), then another second to actually jam the breaks, now potentially it being to late and childs been hit. Now imagine if you had the same senario, but you had a headset, that took your brainwaves and when it senses your brain saying theres a child in the road, it can relay a message straight to the brakes of the car in; for example 2 seconds, so by the time your foot reaches the break pedal the car is hopefully stopped and the child is safe. Not only could this potentially save many lives due to road accidents it could also become law, to wear one in your car.
In conclusion neuro technlgy will be researched in great depths, purely so it can be implemented in everyday life, a large proportion of the world constantly want the easiest possible way to do something, and being able to just think something and it happening will have people buying, using and including it in their everyday life.

HCI's Impact on Economy
TASK 1 (P1)
How has HCI impacted the economy?
E-Commerce websites like have had a massive impact on the economy, purely because it allows people to shop 24/7 on multiple devices! Adapting their websites to work on mobiles on smaller screens ETC this ability to shop 24/7 has made shops sell twice as much as they would sell, should they only sell from their stores.
Satellite Navigation is now able to be used whilst the user is still driving (although this isn't advised), overall making technology as easy as possible to use has been what has been making the economy what it is today! With voice recognition software and developing "neuro recognition" (using brain waves to control something) technology is becoming easier and easier to use!

NeuroWear "Necomimi" - Mind-controlled Cat Ears!
Overall making it easier to use technology and the ability to access a shop when ever you want has made the economy boom massively, stock brokers can now buy and sell from their smartphones, and that could potentially be a massive impact on the economy thanks to HCI!
HCI's Impact on Culture
TASK 1 (P1)
How has HCI impacted Culture?
However its had a much bigger impact on culture in domestic appliances. Its gone from having to stay home to ensure you don't burn your roast dinner to being able to set a timer off so it turns the oven off for you, allowing you to go blow the froth off of a couple of beers down the local. Timers have often been a key feature of most domestic appliances, allowing you to throw a towel in the dryer, have it set on a timer to start when you leave work, and give you a nice warm dry one when you walk in the door. The common chore of washing up is over, because now you can have a dishwasher, which a lot like a washing machine has a wash for those hand painted plates you had made, the only thing a dishwasher doesn't come with is someone/thing to load it for you, unless your a parent then you can get your kids to load and unload it haha. A lot of these appliances still need the human interaction to tell the machine what the task is but from that point onwards it works alone. However these appliances obviously need a way of imputing the task so dials with obvious and simple images where fitted, buttons, lights and LCD screens where also added, and as appliances get better, the input gets simpler after all these machines where created to make our life easier!

HCI's impact on Society
TASK 1 (P1)
How has HCI impacted society?
In today's day and age its become completely normal for people to walk up the street tapping away at a smart phone texting, checking Facebook or browsing their favourite shopping site to buy the bag or shirt they've wanted. My parents even joke about me and my friends, how we cant have a conversation without checking our phones once or twice. Phones and the Internet hasn't only changed how we act around people, its even changed our language. Many a time I've told a joke and people have gone LOL instead of actually laughing!
Mobile devices has allowed us to take the luxury of our homes (MP3 players, portable game devices) out into the world, it would be weird if you saw someone sitting in the park with a PS3 set up playing a game of Call Of Duty, but its acceptable to have a DS or a PSP and tap a away at the screen and buttons whilst sitting in a café. Not only have mobile devices allowed the luxuries of our homes but they have allowed us to always have a connection to the rest of the world, no longer will you need to take your friend out for a coffee, you could potentially sit in two different parts of the world using your phone to video call over a cuppa thanks to mobile internet, the internet used to be one of the many luxuries of home that's now portable. To top it off you probably wont need a mobile internet connection, with cafés offering broadband you can just take your laptop with you and view your emails on a nice computer screen.
In this current period of time being able to connect is the biggest thing on everyone's mind, a large portion of today's society rely on the ability, to connect anywhere, on anything!

What Is HCI?
TASK 1 (P1)
What is HCI?
HCI stands for Human Computer Interaction.
"(HCI) Analysis of the relationship of computers and humans." - www.robots.com/glossary.php
In this blog, I will study and look at the impact HCI has had on; Soceity, Culture and the Economy. I will also look at products, systems and technogies that have effected HCI.
